The San Angelo Foursquare Church was started in 1935 by Rev. Ray Dunaway. He began his ministry here in a tent and then moved to a tin building on North Chadbourne Street. During the historic flood of 1936, a few ladies from the church went door to door with blankets, food, and prayers for those who were devastated by the flood. Their acts of kindness and generosity helped to establish and expand the pioneering Foursquare Church in this city.
During the late 1930’s, Mr. W. G. Rawls donated property on East 14th Street for a new church building. Services were held there in a tent until the new building was completed.
On November 22, 1939, the church was officially chartered by the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.
In 1996, the 14th Street building was sold and the church met temporarily in the unoccupied Trinity Lutheran Church building on Kenwood Street. In 1997, the first building of our new church was built on the current property on Freeland Avenue. To accommodate the growing congregation, a new sanctuary building was built in 2000. God’s amazing provision was seen as thousands of dollars worth of supplies and labor were donated during the construction. Even more miracles were seen as the entire debt on both buildings was paid off in 2006.
No official documentation could be found, but we know that many, many people have been born again, filled with the Holy Spirit, healed, and transformed by the power of God through the ministry of this Church. Through the last 80+ years, the Foursquare Church has made a profound impact on the people who have attended and on the city of San Angelo. As we celebrate all that God has done through the San Angelo Foursquare Church, we know that the Gospel will continue to transform lives through this Church. Our history reflects the truth of one of the core scriptures that the Foursquare Gospel is founded on. Parkside has been in it’s current location since 1997.
In 2020, we got a new pastor, and though it was at the height of the Coronavirus pandemic in San Angelo, the Lord faithfully provided for the His love and ministry in the community to continue. The community garden began in 2021 with slow & new outreach and investment into the people of San Angelo. If you read this far, we hope you will come for a visit!
